They shopped it around and, according to McElhenney, the fledgling FX offered the best chance for the team to retain creative control and to do the low-budget show their way. While living in a converted West Hollywood garage and working as a waiter, McElhenney approached his fellow aspiring actors Day, Glenn Howerton and Jordan Reid (then McElhenney’s girlfriend) with a script, and they shot the original pilot for “Sunny” on a hand-held camcorder. The first guy is really sorry to hear that - but he still needs the sugar.Īs McElhenney put it, if the “maxim” of “Friends” was “I’ll be there for you,” then the one for “Sunny” would be “I’ll never be there.” He envisaged a scene in which a guy knocks on his friend’s door to ask for some sugar for his coffee. The idea for one of TV’s most successful comedies was born modestly enough, coming to McElhenney in the middle of the night in 2004, two years after he moved to Los Angeles. Small and not athletic but longing deeply for connection, the teenage McElhenney eventually abandoned his attempts to play a sport at his all-boys Catholic high school and answered the siren song of a nearby sister school, which needed boys for its production of Noël Coward’s “Blithe Spirit.” After a brief stint at Temple University, he moved to New York and eventually Los Angeles to pursue acting. During weekends at their moms’ house, it was “Golden Girls.”Īcting was initially a last resort. When he was 9, his mother moved out to be with the woman who is now his stepmother, and he and his two younger siblings sought stability in NBC’s Thursday night lineup, religiously watching “The Cosby Show” and “Family Ties” with their father. Growing up in South Philly, McElhenney clung to TV comedies as a source of escape and connection. The McElhenney origin story he tells is a hero’s journey built in the grand tradition of the American dream: An outsider from a working-class Philadelphia family defies the odds to charm the Hollywood suits and achieve huge success with his buddies by his side. “Sometimes I find myself doing too many things because I’m just like, Oh, I’m here, and I have this opportunity and this access - I want to take it all before I die,” he said, adding later: “At what point does the accumulation of experience become greedy?” And he is given more to soft-spoken contemplation than to punch lines as he drifts through philosophical musings about power and ethics, about where he’s from and where he’s heading. He pauses only to sip water from an oversized Mason jar or tend to Moose, his and Olson’s rescue cat, who has a penchant for breaking the “no countertops” rule. They describe him as “the most driven man I’ve ever met” (“Sunny” executive producer and star Charlie Day) “the captain that you want on your ship” (his “Sunny” co-star and wife of 13 years, Kaitlin Olson) and “the ‘Rocky’ soundtrack in human form” (Megan Ganz, who created “Mythic Quest” with McElhenney and Day and is also an executive producer on “Sunny”).Ī voracious reader - or, more often, listener - of memoirs by successful people (recent selections include one by the Nike co-founder Phil Knight), McElhenney speaks with a measured, academic eloquence. Those who know McElhenney know complacency was never an option. “So, am I going to sit back and just wait to die?” And yet, in the past two years, he has cocreated and stars in the Apple TV+ comedy “Mythic Quest” codeveloped and sold a third, to-be-announced scripted show recorded a “Sunny” recap podcast and is currently filming the docu-series “Welcome to Wrexham,” which will chart his journey as the new co-owner of a Welsh soccer team. Thanks largely to the longevity of “Sunny,” he is financially set for life - he doesn’t really need to do anything more. He’s embarking on what he calls “the second half” of his career. But it’s also a midpoint, and a cause for reflection.

The game featured Spyro, a small purple dragon, his dragonfly companion, Sparx, and a multitude of fellow dragons. It stars the titular dragon, and is considered by many to be one of the best PlayStation games. As an example, Ted Price stated that Spyro did not have hands so he could not even hold a gun.Spyro the Dragon is a platform game developed by Insomniac Games and released for the PlayStation on September 10, 1998. in an interview on Resistance: Fall of Man, Ted Price stated that they gave up the series after releasing Spyro: Year of the Dragon because his actions were limited. During the development of the game, Spyro was originally going to be green, but the developers thought it was a bad idea because he would blend in with the Grass Areas, so they eventually changed him to purple. The development of Spyro the Dragon began in 1997, one year after Disruptor was released. The game had positive reviews and was praised by critics because of the use of fantasy and sci-fi in most of the Dragon Realms, a big, free-roam 3-D environment in each realm, incredibly diverse, catchy music that corresponds with the level's theme, and very good graphics for its time, making it one of the first well-received full-3D platformers for the original PlayStation. If the countdown ends the player must restart the course. The goal is to complete a certain number of obstacles (such as planes to blow up and rings to fly through) which each add a small amount of time to a countdown. Every homeworld contains a flying level (speedway) where Spyro's normal gliding ability is replaced with the ability to fly freely. Each homeworld contains an optional boss to defeat, except for the final homeworld where the boss is mandatory. Many later levels focus on Spyro's ability to glide from platform to platform. The first few realms are small fields with few ways to die, but they become harder later in the game. The first half of the game also has dragon eggs to collect. Each realm contains a certain number of gems to recover and dragons to rescue. Each homeworld and its realms are progressively more difficult than the last. The goal in each homeworld is to collect a certain amount of items, be it gems, rescued dragons, or dragon eggs, in order to travel to the next homeworld. The game is made up of many different levels (realms), all connected together by hub worlds (homeworlds). If the player collected all gems, saved all the dragons, and rescued all the eggs, then an alternate ending is presented. After Spyro defeats Gnasty another documentary is presented on Spyro. As Spyro releases the trapped Dragons along the way, they return a favour by giving hints and tips up until the final conflict where Spyro battles with Gnasty. In the meantime, Gnasty’s army of minions (transformed from the Dragons’ gems) are doing their best to stop him. Spyro, the only unfrozen dragon, travels the six worlds – including Gnasty’s deformed industrial world – releasing the Dragons and collecting the stolen treasure. Spyro was so small that the spell shot straight over his head. One thing he didn't consider was Spyro the Dragon. He then turned all the gems he could find into his willing minions. The spell trapped all the dragons in crystal halfway through the filming of their documentary. When the game begins Gnasty cast the freeze spell he had been working on after he heard the Dragons insulting him on a documentary style video. Gnasty began to experiment with magic spells and, after a while, he discovered two he wanted: a giant spell to trap all Dragons in crystal and a potion to animate the radiant gems and turn them into an army of Gnorc soldiers. He also built his home there, as well as an industrial settlement to keep all his stolen treasure. As soon as he got there he renamed it "Gnasty's World" and overtook all the worlds located in it. Gnasty became such a problem that he was banished to the Dragon junkyard, a world that they thought would perfectly suit Gnasty. He hated them because every time he looked in them he would see reflections of his own ugly face. More than anything, he detested their beautiful, shiny jewels. Because of this Gnasty resented the Dragon families. He was an unpleasant creature that the Dragons didn't like. Their lives were happy and peaceful until Gnasty Gnorc broke the rules. Before the game begins, the five Dragon families lived in harmony in their five worlds (these being Artisans, Peace Keepers, Magic Crafters, Beast Makers and Dream Weavers). The process is a bit involved, and a nail technician will get the best results without damaging your natural nail. The best way to remove your dip powder nails is to head back into the salon. That way you’re not wasting money on a long-lasting color that you’re not using. Just keep in mind that if you’re regularly painting over them, perhaps a less permanent option will better suit your needs. You may need to apply another layer of top coat once you’re done, to give it some shine, and to protect the color. The top coat protects the powder color, so just use a non-acetone nail polish remover to take off any new polish. If you’re doing it for an event such as a job interview and want to take it off after, that’s also an option. You can certainly paint over your dip powder nails. Finally, if you get them done at a salon, check that they brush or pour the powder onto your nails, rather than a dip - shared powder tubs have been linked to cuticle infections. If you’re attending a salon, it can also be expensive to get them done every three weeks. On the downside, removing them properly is a bit of a process, and can damage your nails if not done correctly. There’s also an incredible array of vibrant colors available from neon pinks to white glitter and subtle nudes. Plus, there’s no odor, they’re less messy if you don’t have a steady painting hand, and there are plenty of at-home options for a DIY mani. On the pro side for dip powder nails, they’re easy and straightforward to do, generally taking less time than regular acrylics or gel nails. There will always be pros and cons to all manicure options. You can do dip powders on both natural and false nails, making it an excellent option for everyone. The look is finished off with a sealing or activating coat to harden the powder and a top coat for that extra beautiful, fresh manicure shine. The process is repeated a few times for each nail, depending on the effect you want to achieve. A couple of layers are applied using the base coat, after which you would dip the nail into a pot of highly pigmented powder, or pour it on the nail. The surface is then built up using a base coat and natural powder for thickness and durability. The basic process involves removing all existing polish, shaping, and applying a bond or dehydrator to remove any oils and debris. Pour a few drops of liquid soap on to a foot brush/scrubber and rub on the heel until they are thoroughly clean. What lasts longer: gel or dip? What Are Dip Nails?ĭip nails are a type of manicure, and a fantastic alternative to acrylic or gel nails and nail polishes. Now, use a pumice stone to exfoliate dead skin from the heels. Soak hand towels in hot water and wrap them around the feet to seal moisture. Make your scrub by combining 1 tablespoon olive oil with 1 tablespoon raw sugar, chickpea flour (besan) or oatmeal. After this, gently massage your feet with a scrub. Push the cuticle with the cuticle stick or orange stick Pat dry your feet with a clean towel and cut the nails and shape your nails the way you want. While doing this you could relax with a book or enjoy some good music. Soak your feet in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes. Add a spoon of crystal salt and liquid shampoo to a tub of warm water. But hey all's not lost you can still have a perfect pair of beautiful looking feet with a little work on them that can be done right in the comfort of your home. Not all of us can afford a spa pedicure or get a foot reflexology massage done. Beautiful feet signify personal hygiene too. There are changes to the original mode, of course, making things a bit fairer for both players. Occasionally you don’t want Player Two to faff around taking bullets and risky jumps for you, you want to grind them into the dirt and make them eat your dust in Versus mode! Sonic 2 Versus Edition (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) However, it adds a homing double jump for Sonic and Shadow, so it’s definitely a blast playing through it. It’s a shame that it’s unfinished, as the framerate is in constant flux and there are glitches all over the place. The version available on Steam is kinda broken, but if you look around you can get an updated version of the mod that works on the Mega CD. One of the more interesting, if not fully functional mods, it added five playable characters with unique movesets, new level layouts and new music. With everything completely redesigned from the new zones to some of the enemies within, this is one of the more challenging mods on this list. That’s because this is the hub, and you have to pick which zone you’ll go to next, via giant rings. You start off in the Green Hill Zone, but there are no enemies and it’s been redesigned. Sonic 1 Dragon Edition (Sonic the Hedgehog 3) The bosses are also new, rather than changed-up originals. The level designs are great, with some new mechanics such as speed ramps, hot air balloons and hang gliders. You have the spindash, but other than that both characters play the same. In a nice touch, you retain your rings between zones.Ī complete mod which allows you to play as Blaze the Cat as well as the titular hero. On top of that is the double jump for five rings, and if you collect over 200 rings you can go into Overclocked Mode. There are certain monitors which will give you a buddy, in the guise of a bomb on two legs, which will follow you around and help you out.Īlso, the other speed move is present, but now costs five rings each time you use it. What appears at first glance to be a lesser sequel to Hyperdrive, as you only have the basic spindash, there’s actually more to it than that. Metal Sonic Rebooted (Sonic the Hedgehog) But then you discover that there’s a hidden menu (press C on the start screen) that lets you play as five different characters!ĭid I mention that one of the characters is Kirby, and another is Mario (under the name Somari the Adventurer)? And that everyone has their own unique moves (except Mario & Sonic who share the spindash)? This is a fantastic mod, even discounting the fact that I love Metal Sonic (AKA Metalix, right fellow Sonic The Comic fans?). Then you add two speedy moves, with their own unique animations. It would have been a crazily ambitious mod if it just had Metal Sonic, along with completely new zones. Metal Sonic Hyperdrive (Sonic the Hedgehog) But what if you could play something you love that IS new? Thanks to Steam Workshop, and a copy of SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics, you can do just that!Īs a bit of a Sonic fan, I went looking into mods for the first three classic Sonic titles, to see what I could find - here are 10 of them in alphabetical order. The decision between playing something new from the backlog or something that you already love is always a hard one. The LED strip itself attaches to the stand via magnets and draws power via an USB-C to USB-A cable. The acessory is actually compatible with a wide range of monitor depths, so it’s not exclusively made for the Mi 2K Gaming Monitor 27″. It consists of two parts – a magnetic stand that clasps the monitor itself and the actual light. Xiaomi also supplied us with the so-called Mi Computer Light Bar that can be easily attached and detached on the top bezel of the monitor. The 3.5mm audio jack along with the 2x USB 3.0 connectors are positioned outside for convenience sake. It covers the DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, the USB in port and the AC plug. Right under the heat-dissipation plate you will find a magnetic back cover that can be easily attached and detached. Since this is a high-performance monitor that can get pretty bright, some advanced heat dissipation design is needed, but the engineers put the grille on the back so it doesn’t mess up the sleek looks. Xiaomi is particularly proud of its so-called Monolithic back. However, it’s not really a full-fledged VESA-compatible so an additional adapter bracket is needed for easy mounting on a wall. It’s versatile enough to fit any desk and height easily, offering vertical adjustment, as well as swivel, tilt, and rotation to portrait mode. The finish is smooth and nice to touch.Īdditionally, the stand supports pretty much all the adjustements you’d think of. The base plate is made of aluminum and can be detached without tools and the stand itself is also made of metal. Most of the Mi 2K Gaming Monitor body is made out of plastic but the metal stand feels extra premium. The monitor has a pretty thin profile as well. The control keys are positioned near the bottom-right corner with the power button being illuminated. Xiaomi 2K Gaming Monitor’s design is nicely modern with thin bezels on three sides, while the chin is a tad thicker. Of course, the user manuals are at hand along with a handy color correction report giving you some insight on the calibration settings like white point, color accuracy and gamma. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get along with a standard VESA mount so you have to look for an adapter. The stand will ship disassembled so you have to attach the base, but you also get four screws if you decide to mount it on the wall. You’ve got a compatible DisplayPort, power cable, and a USB IN cable to support the 2x USB 3.0 connectors. The monitor comes in a fairly big box with all the cables you’d need to set it up. It has QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) and comes with a factory-calibrated sRGB mode. Mi 2K Gaming Monitor supports adaptive sync for both Nvidia and AMD GPUs and a high 165Hz refresh rate, but it also offers an IPS panel with good contrast, excellent viewing angles and is VESA DisplayHDR 400-compliant. In most cases, you’d have to compromise image quality when hunting gaming monitors, but Xiaomi is actually looking to deliver a balanced product. But does it have the real-life performance that it takes to take on the big names in the industry? Let’s find out! It starts with the Mi 2K Gaming Monitor with a starting price of €500, which seems quite competitive for the feature set in the 27-inch segment. Xiaomi is finally unleashing its gaming monitors outside of China.
All while simultaneously, Cardfighters battle each other using cards on Planet Earth, being able to act and remain conscious without souls residing in their bodies. All Cardfighters, besides Imagination Manipulation, have Soul Projection for projecting their souls onto Planet Cray during cardfights, Summoning to various degrees, Possession, Fusionism, Transformation and Mind Control by being able to "Call" and "Ride" Units on Cray, using "Rear-Guards" or becoming "Vanguards" during battle to make powerful formations of Units and use strategic combinations to use their Units at their full capacity. There is also "Guarding" when Units are sacrificed for defensive purposes and can weaken opponent Units to survive against onslaughts.Ĭardfighters also share general abilities that are achieved through their power of imagination, which is what Vanguard is generally centered around. There are mechanics involving "The Soul" where Vanguard Units use Soul Manipulation in different forms for paying the costs to use some skills. Trigger Units have helpful effects by being able to heal Vanguards, re-stand Units or increase the power of Units to great degrees. For general abilities of the Units, they include but are not limited to Existence Erasure with every attack unleashed, Mid-Godly Regeneration, and various forms of Soul Manipulation, Statistics Amplification and Reduction, Energy Manipulation, and Attack negation. In addition, each Unit in the game is also separated by the clans that they belong to, with there being multiple clans with skills and abilities that are unique to each clan. Most Units in Cardfight!! Vanguard are Large-Star level busters with the weakest being Building levelers and are very well supported by Skills and Mechanics that appeal to their Grade, Race, and Power. Aichi plays every day and he strives with all his heart and soul to play better so that when he battles Kai, Kai will recognize Aichi’s worth as an equal. Aichi immediately likes Vanguard, so he begins to play it with his friends Misaki Tokura and Kamui Katsuragi, and others like his new rival Kai (who is one of the best Vanguard players). A game where players, or "cardfighters" battle using imagination to send their souls to a planet called Cray and fight alongside the creatures of the planet, leading them into battle as their "Vanguards". He was given Blaster Blade by Kai Toshiki, a cool-hearted high schooler who introduces Aichi to the world-wide popular Cardfight!! Vanguard training card-game. However, he has a card called “Blaster Blade” that was given to him when he was little, which is the sole thing that sustains him. The plot, in the beginning, follows the story of a boy and a new Vanguard Cardfighter named Aichi Sendou, someone who previously lived his life looking backward rather than forwards.
One more special types of card that can't be gain in normal mission and available only ONE, is the +100 card. In game currently there are 10 main types of cards that are affect to the character's base ability from the lowest card is +10, the highest card that you can gain in battle ( the harder the mission, the higher chance to drop the card ) is +50. By collecting and equipping cards, characters that might not be suited to battle can be boosted to make them more capable, alternatively they can be given abilities that make their natural strengths more pronounced. There is a system that allows players to modify characters using ability cards. Interference Type moves are Solar Flare, Transfiguration Beam, Drain Energy.
Granted, they don't deal very much damage at all, but just prepare to get frustrated quickly.Īlthough this character comes equipped with a hefty amount of randomness, that doesn't mean players won't find familiarity in other aspects of its fighting style. Perform the HP version? Great! Now you have three fireballs on screen that you yourself and your opponent will have to identify once they appear.įrom what we saw on stream today, Omen's projectiles look like they're going to be a large problem for some characters. and every single projectile it throws will release as a different one at complete random. Omen has several fireball variations - one that homes in on the opponent, one that travels along the ground, etc. But where Omen's projectiles differ from any other character in Killer Instinct is their element of randomness. When it comes to his actual fireball special, the strength of the button pressed dictates how many fireballs are tossed (HP = 3, MP = 2, and LP = 1). I mean, just look at the GIF below! And that's not even a variation of his fireball special move! Right out of the gate, I can safely say that this character throws an insane amount of projectiles. Omen's appearance definitely reflects this, as it looks much like shadow energy shaped into the form of a man with a similar stance and build to Jago. Omen is the herald of Gargos - a spirit that possessed Shadow Jago only until it gained enough strength to physically manifest itself in the KI world. This means that he is not a part of the 8 scheduled characters set to be released this season, and will only be available for those who purchased either the Combo Breaker or Ultra Combo editions. Double Helix was lauded for having done a good job rebooting the classic fighting game franchise, and so far, Iron Galaxy has been performing pretty well as far as expanding the game is concerned. For those who don't know, Omen is season 2's "bonus character". Iron Galaxy Studios has been in charge of the development of Killer Instinct ever since original developer Double Helix was acquired by Amazon last year. He is a bonus character, separate from the eight characters that Season 2 will deliver, and Microsoft has mentioned that it has no plans to sell him individually and that he will only be available to those who bought the Season 2 pack. Omen will become available for free for owners of Killer Instinct Ultra Edition, starting January 30, and to Combo Breaker Edition owners starting February 5. Omen is an exclusive offer from Microsoft The video below shows Omen in action, delivering some of his most powerful moves, and ending with a tease for the next fighter joining the cast of Killer Instinct, Golem.įor the time being, there isn't too much information on Golem, apart from the fact that he has an impressive stature, as can be seen in the shot where he knocks down the wall in the trailer. His move set is based on Jago's, but he also has a number of tricks of his own, with his specials being inspired by the ones used by the boss version of Shadow Jago. Omen, Herald of Gargos was in possession of Jago, and after accumulating enough power through his battles as Shadow Jago, the monster was able to manifest in the physical plane, as the sign of the darkness that is to come. The game is a reboot of the classic SNES Killer Instinct, available as a free-to-play title for owners of Microsoft's console. The warrior is a Season 2 bonus character, joining the cast of brawlers already available in Killer Instinct, the Xbox One exclusive fighting game. Developer Iron Galaxy Studios has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming release of Omen, Herald of Gargos, a brand new fighter foreshadowing a grim future for Killer Instinct.
